Yijiang District is located in the south of Wuhu City, on the west of the Jingshan River, the north of the Zhang River, the east of Yangtse River and the south of the Qingyi River. It abuts on Wuhu County and Fanchang County in the south, and face Wuwei County, Xinwu District and Jinghu District across the Qingyi River. With the total area of 64 Km2, Yijiang District governs two twons - Yijiang and Lugang, four street offices - Yijiangqiao, Zhongshan South Road, Limin Road and Nanrui, eight villager's committees and twenty-five residenter'committees. By the end of 2003 the total population is 125 thousand and farming population is 30 thousand. There are 13 minority ethnic groups such as Hui, Mongol, Zang, Uigur, Miao, Yi, Zhuang, Korean, Man, Tujia, Li, Yao and Jingpo with the population accounting for 748, 0.6% of all population.
Yijiang is located as a plain with average altitude of 6 -10 metres. The south-middle and the southeast are lower. Along the southeast side there are Xiaojing Hill, Daguan Hill, Aihao Hill and Matou Hill. Yuanmu Pond, Luhua Pond and Yingcun Lake are over 300 mu. Yijiang is in the area of north subtropical monsoon climate. Summer and winter are long. Spring and autumn are short. Summer is hot. Winter is cold. Spring is warm. And autumn is cool. It enjoys plentiful raining and rich shining. The average temperature is 16.1-18.7℃. The average rainfall is 1200-1410mm which mainly concentrate in summer and autumn. The average shining time is 1939-2092 hours. The average period of time without frost is 240 days. Yijiang is proud of its abundant resources such as limestone, rice, cole, vegetable, water chestnut and lotus root. The most famous specialties are saury, shad, crab and scissors, kitchen knife, razor which were produced in Lugang.
Yijiang enjoys convenient communication and occupies a key position through which Wangan rail, Wutong rail, National Higiway 205,Wuma speedway, Wuxuan speedway and highway along the river go. It is the entrance from three countries - Wuhu, Fanchang, Nanling to Wuhu City. Yangtse River connects with Qingyi River and Zhang River with docks such as Lugang, Huayuan, Guihua and Yuye alongside. There are six bridges of different types above Qingyi River which attach the center of the city. Limin Road, Zhongshan South Road, Huajing South Road, Jiuhua South Road and Eshan Road are the main roads.
